What a day

The sun has set and our bellys are full of steak 🥩   again. Too much food! But tasty. I found out the dining car coffee actually tastes good. I hope it doesn't keep me awake. Grant followed my lead and found out medium rare is even better.
Lunch was stunning—not my dressing-soaked Caesar salad, but the view cruising through Glenwood Canyon. Grant even spotted a family of otters 🦦 running on the ice of the Colorado River. I caught a quick glimpse after he pointed them out, and even found that my running video recording had briefly caught them. Adorable.
I've been quite busy snappy mini videos, which unfortunately the blogger site converts to stills. I plan to assemble them into a full video at some point. I'm not trying to capture everything, but to grab enough snippets to fire our memories in the future.
We realized yesterday was train and skyscraper day, while today was all about mountains. We hung out all morning in the observation car as our train climbed over the front range and up to and over the Great Divide. Actually, we tunneled under the divide in the Moffat tunnel, still smelling of diesel from a recent freight train.
After chilling on the platform at Winter Park, we retreated to our roomette. With our masks 😷 off and faces against the glass, we absorbed the wonder of it all. I imagined the train would be creeping through the mountains but we generally proceeded quickly.
Mule deer 🦌, lots of elk, a few golden eagles, two baldies 🦅, and magpies joined the otters in the natural menagerie. Beautiful. Too bad the running noise was on the wrong side.
Now headed north to Salt Lake City, we will be sleeping through some of Utah and all of Nevada, I figure. We should awaken to the Sierra Nevada mountain range.
